Every kid at one time or another believes he or she will be the next great structural engineer. Usually this happens with the successful vertical stacking of the 25th wooden block, or the completion of a two story Lego duplex.
One great thing about stacking toys, blocks and other building toys is that there are really no limits to what can be done. Space ships can conquer faraway lands, fire engines can zoom to the rescue, a happy family can live a wonderful existence inside their little multi-colored brick houses.
Other types of building toys have their own unique appeal. Keeper toys, ones that don’t get put away at the end of the day can provide entertainment and a sense of accomplishment for parents and kids alike. Consider the build it yourself kits for sale at most hobby stores. A birdhouse or squirrel feeder can be built in a short time, and will last at least through the summer.
These types of toys, or kits, are great projects for adults who maybe don’t have the best ideas when it comes to hanging out with kids. Whether it’s the grandpa who doesn’t see the child enough to know what to talk about, or the dad who wants a fun project that can be completed on a single Saturday, building toys provide a common purpose and lots of fun memories. It’s just a short leap between hammering the last nail into the best little birdhouse on the block and designing and building the fastest go-cart in the race.
These projects are as time-consuming as you want them to be. They start at the very inexpensive, easy to finish level to the more sophisticated and pricey projects that could take up a month of weekends. Only the sky is the limit and truly make the best kids toys for all ages.
